05/18/12-U.S.A: the special session of Colorado’s legislature

This week, the special session of Colorado’s legislature finished its business, completing work on bills that were caught up in GOP Speaker Frank McNulty’s unprecedented contortions to stop civil unions legislation from getting an up-or-down vote. Even though McNulty found new procedural tricks to stop civil unions again in the special session, the bills completed this week deal with important issues for Colorado.

But it didn’t have to be this way. In Washington, partisan gridlock and putting gamesmanship over fairness drive people crazy, but until recently, we didn’t see this kind of nonsense in Colorado’s capitol. As Governor Hickenlooper told legislators at the beginning of the week, “we owe it to the people we serve to do better.”

If we’re going to demand better leadership, it’s on us to make it happen. Our democracy gives us the power to choose the people who represent us in government. That means the responsibility to choose wisely belongs to our friends, family, neighbors, and ultimately ourselves.

If you feel as strongly as I do that we can’t allow Frank McNulty and his Republican allies to continue to run our State House, please join me in fighting for a different future for Colorado. To add your voice, please speak out by writing a letter to your local paper. Our website has a tool allowing you to submit a letter (with more papers to come).

Thank you for lending your voice to our efforts for a better Colorado.

Sincerely,

Matt Inzeo
