Friends,
Today, Denver’s kids are back to the classroom. The first day of school is always exciting: new teachers, new supplies, and new opportunities to succeed.
The first day of school always reminds me of the fact that our kids only go through third grade once, seventh grade once, and high school once. Every day and every class counts.
This past year, the Denver Public Schools graduated 500 more students than two years ago and proficiency in math and reading increased, but we still only have a 51% graduation rate. While our schools are steadily improving, there is still much more to do to ensure that all of our kids graduate well prepared for the future.
While we may envision world-class schools for our kids, we are not there yet and they deserve better. I am running for DPS school board at-large because we need to make sure that our schools improve as quickly as possible.
If you share the belief that all of our kids deserve great schools please help us reach our goal of 100 new donors by contributing 5, 10 or even 25 dollars to our campaign today!
Today, school bells across the city will ring as more than 80,000 kids return to the classroom. Let’s welcome our kids back to school by giving them opportunities to achieve now.
Sincerely,
Happy Haynes
PS: To welcome kids back to school, we will be hosting Ice Cream Socials this weekend. Please join us at an event in your neighborhood.
